David, nicknamed Rocky Rocastle, was an English football player, who spent the majority of his career at Arsenal F.C playing 218 league games and scoring 24 goals.

In February 2001, David announced that he was suffering from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, an aggressive form of cancer which attacks the immune system. He underwent a course of chemotherapy for the illness and was hopeful of a recovery. But he died in the early hours of 31 March 2001, aged only 33.

Rocastle was survived by his wife Janet, son Ryan and daughters Sasha, Melissa and Monique.

A legend

I was too young to experience your time at Arsenal Rocky, I was just 5 when you left the club.

But I was bought up on stories of the Lewisham lad, a genius winger who lit up the place with his skills and his smile.

The day we heard the news, I was 13 and it was the first time I've seen my Dad visibly upset. His mates to.

He's told me all about you, and I'll tell my kids.

Never forgotten.

Always a Gooner.

A true Arsenal legend.
I'll never forget his face at Anfield 89
in the closing stages.
The delight on his face at the lane in 87.
I was lucky enough to watch him at
Highbury and it was plain to see he was
a talent - my favourite no 7 - Rocky.

Rocky

David Rocastle was a hero of mine when he first burst on the Arsenal scene in the mid-Eighties. He quickly became my favourite player because of his skill, energy and tenacity.

He was widely admired by Arsenal fans.

He will not be forgotten

Sorely missed

You were my first hero at Arsenal Rocky. I never had the pleasure of meeting you unfortunately, but I can safely say you were a true gentleman on and off the pitch. A player that every fan admired, you were our representative on the pitch. You loved Arsenal dearly as we all do, and were lucky enough to play for them.

I feel so grateful to have seen you play live. Its a shame there are not more players and men like you nowadays.

The Arsenal family misses you dearly.

RIP Rocky you Legend

10 years dad n it gets harder everyday

Its been 10 years since u went away, I'm 20 now I wish u could see me, I wish I could see you.
I wish you were around to give me the fatherly advise I need, to wrap me in your arms when I miss mom, instead I have to miss you both I have to wish you both were here, I need you now more than I did before n more than I thought I would.
My strength is looking in the mirror n seeing my smile cause its a perfect match to yours daddy, my eyes too n my rocastle nose.
All I have to hold on to is stories and pictures I wish I had even one memory but I possess none. And even though our time was short I love you as if you were always there, I carry u in my heart as if you are still here, you and mom aren't just my guardian angels your my strength and my reason to go on. I hope I make you both proud.
I just wish you were here, to teach me how to ride a bike, to teach me how to toughen up. Who's gonna walk me down the isle now? Who's gonna be in the audience at university graduation? No grandparents for my kids, no one to be there when I'm down, no one to run to. Sometimes I feel like I'm alone in this world, if you think about it I kinda am. I ask God everyday WHY! But all I have are wishes and questions that can never be answered. I carry you both in my heart dad and I pray everyday that u guys loved me the way I love you. I love you both and I always will. Save a spot for me in heaven.

rocky r.i.p

im 44 years old and have supported arsenal for about 35 yrs , ive followed arsenal all over the country in and in europe since the boring ol days during the 80's etc seeing some excellant players in that time but without doubt my favourite player was "rocky", every game that he played he did so with heart and passion, he played the game like any fan would for his club, he represented the fan on the pitch and thats why to this day when "rockys" name is mentioned it still evokes strong emotions..
I can say without fear of contradiction that amongst the fans who saw him play alongside denton"the bear"rocky will never be forgotten.R.I.P ROCKY
